Unveiled at the 2009 IAA, Mercedes SLS is a luxurious tourer car produced to replace the Mercedes-Benz SLR MCLaren. Its actual sale was in 2010 in Europe and in the US in 2011. It is one of a few luxurious cars that are affordable and whose production is still on course. It has a both 2-door coupe and 2-door roadster convertible body styles.

A rear-wheel drive, the car has a 6.2 Liter V8 engine and a 7-speed dual clutch semi-automatic transmission system. With a wheel base of 1.5.5 inches, the car measures 182.6 inches and 76.3 inches in length and width respectively. While the coupe stands at 49.3 inches, the roadster stands at 49.7 inches in height.

The cars design started in 2007 with the bonnet designed to be long with the passenger compartment close to the rear axle. The rear part of the Mercedes SLS is however short. In order to keep the car light, the doors are designed to be closed manually. They are however designed to automatically detach in case of a roll-over. Because of its light weight, most consumers consider the Mercedes SLS a sporty rather than a luxury car. Six different versions of the car are available.

Unveiled at the 2010 New York Auto Show, the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 is a racing version that initially competed in national GT3 championships before it was allowed to race in FIA GT3 championships in 2011.

Nicknamed the “Blackbird”, the Mercedes SLS AMG was unveiled by the Australian subsidiary and was specifically made for the 2010 Australian International Motor Show.

Although it has already been presented at the Paris Motor Show this year, the official release of the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive is planned for June 2013. The car features four electric motors with each wheel having its own. This is with a combination of 740 horsepower and a liquid cooled 400 V lithium-ion battery. This gives the car its ability to attain the speed of 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster was unveiled in 2011. Although it retains all the specifications of the couple, it is a convertible with conventional doors and electrically folding fabric top. It is reputed to be one of the best cars throughout the world.

When it comes to power, the Mercedes SLS AMG GT is the most powerful in its class. Unveiled in June this year (2012), it is available as coupe or roadster. It draws its power from the upgraded AMG Speed Shift DCT gearbox. With AMG Ride Control and exclusive stylish leather on sporty seats, it is one of the most luxurious yet sporty cars available
